Lord John-Paul

Lord John-Paul A very serious man, Lord John-Paul was responsible for overseeing Serpent's Hold, home of the Order of the Silver Serpent, which trained the military force for Britannia, and the royal guards of Lord British. When the Avatar first arrived in Serpent's Hold, Lord John-Paul welcomed the Champion of Virtue warmly, and mentioned that he had a task for him. Recently, the statue of Lord British, set in the Hold commons, had been defaced by an unknown vandal, and Lord John-Paul asked the Avatar to investigate the matter. When he agreed, Lord John-Paul suggested that the Avatar speak with Sir Denton, the tavernkeeper of the Hallowed Dock, as his ability to solve problems and puzzles was remarkable.

As they spoke, Lord John-Paul told the Avatar about his trusted lieutenants: Sir Richter, his second-in-command who was in charge when Lord John-Paul was occupied, and who had recently joined the Fellowship, a group founded by Batlin; and Sir Horffe, the winged gargoyle Captain of the guards who Lord John-Paul felt was the most honorable warrior he had met, but who had taken a dislike to the Fellowship. During the course of his investigation, the Avatar uncovered evidence that seemed to link Sir Horffe to the crime, but after speaking with Lady Jehanne, the Avatar learned that Sir Pendaran, another Fellowship member, was responsible. Grateful, Lord John-Paul assured the Avatar that Sir Pendaran would be properly reprimanded. As the Avatar continued his quest, Lord John-Paul remained in Serpent's Hold, overseeing the keep of Courage.

Sir Richter

Sir Richter A dashing young man, Sir Richter was the armourer of Serpent's Hold, outfitting the knights in the Order of the Silver Serpent with high-quality weapons and armour, and was the second-in-command for Lord John-Paul, helping him to serve Lord British and the needs of Britannia. When the Avatar first arrived in Serpent's Hold, Sir Richter greeted the Champion of Virtue and warned him not to try and cheat him again. When asked about his remarks, Sir Richter became repentant and admitted that not long before Sullivan, a petty thief who claimed to be the Avatar, had stolen several items when Sir Richter wasn't looking. As they spoke, Sir Richter told the Avatar that he was a member of the Fellowship, a group founded by Batlin, and that the duties of the knights in the Hold were to protect the common man while providing examples of proper behavior to the general populace.

Sir Richter also confessed his lack of trust in Sir Horffe, the gargoyle Captain of the guards, and even though Lady Tory, the beautiful Hold advisor whose empathic ability allowed her to determine another's intentions and emotions, had vouched for Sir Horffe's honesty, Sir Richter felt the gargoyle captain was lacking in moral discipline by not truly believing in the unity of the Hold. Recently, the statue of Lord British, set in the Hold commons, had been defaced by an unknown vandal, and Lord John-Paul had asked the Avatar to investigate the matter. When he asked about the crime, Sir Richter told the Avatar that the vandal did not seek unity, and gave the Avatar some stone chips he had found at the base of the statue that were stained with blood. During the course of his investigation, the Avatar learned from Lady Leigh that the chips were stained with gargoyle blood, seeming to link Sir Horffe to the crime, but after speaking with Lady Jehanne, the Avatar learned that Sir Pendaran, another Fellowship member, was responsible. As the Avatar continued his quest, Sir Richter remained in Serpent's Hold, maintaining the armoury.

Sir Horffe

Sir Horffe A stern winged gargoyle, Sir Horffe was the Captain of the guard in Serpent's Hold, assisting Lord John-Paul by protecting the residents of the Hold while maintaining the general order of the knights of the Order of the Silver Serpent. When the Avatar first arrived in Serpent's Hold, Sir Horrfe greeted the False Prophet, and recommended the Avatar seek out Sir Denton, the tavernkeeper at the Hollowed Deck, for more information about the residents of the Hold. Recently, the statue of Lord British, set in the Hold commons, had been defaced by an unknown vandal, and Lord John-Paul had asked the Avatar to investigate the matter. When he asked about the crime, Sir Horffe denied any knowledge of the incident, but during the course of his investigation, the Avatar uncovered evidence that seemed to link Sir Horffe to the crime.

When confronted, Sir Horffe admitted to the Avatar that he had been wounded while trying to protect the statue, but due to the poor visibility he was unable to identify the armed knight who was guilty. Sir Horffe asked the Avatar not to tell Sir Richter, the armourer and second-in-command who was a Fellowship member, as the knight would not believe someone who openly defied the Fellowship, a group founded by Batlin, which Sir Horffe knew little about and liked even less. Continuing his search, the Avatar later learned from Lady Jehanne that Sir Pendaran, another Fellowship member, was responsible. As the Avatar continued his quest, Sir Horffe remained in Serpent's Hold, guarding the residents.

Sir Pendaran

Sir Pendaran A stern man, Sir Pendaran was a knight of the Order of the Silver Serpent in Serpent's Hold, helping to protect the citizens of Britannia, while being a member of the Fellowship, a group founded by Batlin. When the Avatar first arrived in Serpent's Hold, Sir Pendaran welcomed the Champion of Virtue, and confessed that he felt Lord British and his advisors had grown soft, allowing Britannia's ideals to fail as brigands began to populate the land, diseases seemed to overrun the towns, and as corruption filled the councils. Sir Pendaran remarked that it was only his membership in the Fellowship that had instilled a greater sense of spiritual knowledge and wisdom throughout Britannia. As they spoke, Sir Pendaran told the Avatar that he lived in the Hold along with Lady Jehanne the provisioner.

Recently, the statue of Lord British, set in the Hold commons, had been defaced by an unknown vandal, and Lord John-Paul, the lord of Serpent's Hold, had asked the Avatar to investigate the matter. When he asked about the crime, Sir Pendaran told the Avatar that he felt it a terrible shame. During the course of his investigation, the Avatar uncovered evidence that seemed to link Sir Horffe, the gargoyle Captain of the guards, to the crime, but after speaking with Lady Jehanne, the Avatar learned that Sir Pendaran was responsible. When confronted, Sir Pendaran denied the charges at first, claiming the Avatar was a worm for believing a woman over a knight of the Hold, but soon confessed that he had defaced the statue because the government had become worthless and soft, and promised to beg forgiveness from his fellow knights in Serpent's Hold. As the Avatar continued his quest, Sir Pendaran remained in Serpent's Hold, continuing his tasks.

Sir Denton

Sir Denton A man with a blank stare, Sir Denton was the tavernkeeper of the Hallowed Deck in Serpent's Hold, serving the knights of the Order of the Silver Serpent fine refreshments. When the Avatar first arrived in Serpent's Hold, Sir Denton greeted the Champion of Virtue, and offered to tell the Avatar a joke about why the chicken crossed the road, and was puzzled why no one thought his jokes were funny. As they spoke, Sir Denton was able to tell the Avatar many things that were very detailed, including that Serpent's Hold was located at 53 degrees east and 165 degrees south, and that the Fellowship, a group founded by Batlin, was a twenty-year-old organization that held many festivals, parades, and celebrations, and in addition, they maintained a shelter in the town of Paws, while following an underlying philosophy called the Triad of Inner Strength, which was broken into the three principles known as `strive for unity', which meant that the Fellowship wanted others to work together for the weal of society, `trust thy brother', that implied that each person should not question the actions of others, and `worthiness precedes reward', indicating that the Fellowship's attitude towards reward was that one had to do well to be rewarded.

When asked about the residents of Serpent's Hold, Sir Denton told the Avatar what he knew of them: Lord John-Paul, the lord of the Hold who was a fair and capable leader; Sir Richter, the armourer and second-in-command to Lord John-Paul who was a Fellowship member, and who had begun to teach Sir Denton how to gamble; Sir Horffe, the gargoyle Captain of the guard who had been raised by two human knights who had found him as a child, and who Sir Denton felt was very honorable; Sir Pendaran, a knight of the Hold who was friendly but overbearing at times, and was a Fellowship member; Lady Leigh, the Hold healer whose skills were unparalleled; Lady Tory, a druid who could tell what others were feeling and why they were experiencing such emotions, and who was showing Sir Denton how to be more compassionate; Lady Jehanne, the provisioner and lady of Sir Pendaran, who was helping Sir Denton better his sense of humor; Sir Jordan, the blind fletcher who was an excellent tinkerer; and Menion, the trainer who liked to make swords in his spare time, and who had given Sir Denton one of his creations.

Recently, the statue of Lord British, set in the Hold commons, had been defaced by an unknown vandal, and Lord John-Paul had asked the Avatar to investigate the matter. When he asked about the crime, Sir Denton told the Avatar that he should speak with Sir Richter, who had searched the statue after the incident. Recovering some stone chips stained with blood, the Avatar learned from Lady Leigh that the blood seemed to link Sir Horffe to the crime, but Sir Denton remarked that he did not find that behavior typical of Sir Horffe, and recommended the Avatar speak with Lady Tory about the other residents. Lady Tory suggested the Avatar speak with Lady Jehanne, who told the Avatar that Sir Pendaran was responsible. When the Avatar continued his quest, Sir Denton remained in Serpent's Hold, running the Hallowed Deck.

Sir Jordan

Sir Jordan A blind man, Sir Jordan ran Iolo's South in Serpent's Hold, a fletchery opened by Iolo after the success of his original branch in Britain, selling quality bows and crossbows to the knights of the Order of the Silver Serpent. When the Avatar first arrived in Serpent's Hold, Sir Jordan greeted the Champion of Virtue, and offered to sell the Avatar weapons and missles. As they spoke, Sir Jordan recommended the Avatar speak with Sir Denton, the tavernkeeper of the Hallowed Dock, who knew all of the residents of the Hold.

Recently, the statue of Lord British, set in the Hold commons, had been defaced by an unknown vandal, and Lord John-Paul, the lord of Serpent's Hold, had asked the Avatar to investigate the matter. When he asked about the crime, Sir Jordan told the Avatar that he had nothing to do with it, but that he had heard the sounds of scuffling in the commons, and had later heard Lady Jehanne cry out in surprise. After speaking with Lady Jehanne, the Avatar learned that Sir Pendaran, a Fellowship member, was responsible. As the Avatar continued his quest, Sir Jordan remained in Serpent's Hold, selling his wares.

Lady Jehanne

Lady Jehanne Consort of Sir Pendaran, Lady Jehanne was the provisioner of Serpent's Hold, outfitting the knights of the Order of the Silver Serpent with quality goods for adventure. When the Avatar first arrived in Serpent's Hold, Lady Jehanne greeted the Champion of Virtue, and offered to sell the Avatar the deed to a fine sailing ship which was originally known as the 'Constallation', but after it was destroyed by the ship's captain to prevent it from falling into the hands of attacking pirates, it was rebuilt and recommissioned as 'The Dragon's Breath', for a hefty sum of 600 gold pieces. When asked about Serpent's Hold, Lady Jehanne explained that the residents were knights under the command of Lord John-Paul.

As they spoke, Lady Jehanne explained that she and Sir Pendaran had met 3 years before, and as a fighter he was the only one capable of keeping up with Menion, the local trainer, but recently when Sir Pendaran joined the Fellowship, a group founded by Batlin, he seemed to become less individualistic. Recently, the statue of Lord British, set in the Hold commons, had been defaced by an unknown vandal, and Lord John-Paul had asked the Avatar to investigate the matter. When he asked about the crime, Lady Jehanne confessed to the Avatar that Sir Pendaran had defaced the statue in protest to the Britannian government, and during the hour of his crime, he had fought and wounded another knight during the night, although Lady Jehanne did not know who. When confronted, Sir Pendaran admitted his guilt, and promised to make amends. When the Avatar continued his quest, Lady Jehanne remained in Serpent's Hold, selling her wares.

Lady Leigh

Lady Leigh An attractive woman, Lady Leigh was the healer of Serpent's Hold, caring for the knights of the Order of the Silver Serpent. When the Avatar first arrived in Serpent's Hold, Lady Leigh welcomed the Champion of Virtue, and offered to heal the Avatar of whatever wounds he suffered in combat. As they spoke, Lady Leigh was able to tell the Avatar about the residents of the Hold: Lord John-Paul, the lord of the keep of Courage; Sir Denton, the tavernkeeper of the Hallowed Deck who was known for remembering and discussing important facts; Sir Richter, the armourer of the Hold and the second-in-command; and Sir Horffe, the gargoyle Captain of the guard, who was abandoned at a young age by his father only to be found by two knights of the Hold, who raised him as a noble and stout warrior.

Recently, the statue of Lord British, set in the Hold commons, had been defaced by an unknown vandal, and Lord John-Paul had asked the Avatar to investigate the matter. During the course of his investigation, the Avatar had received some stone chips stained with blood from Sir Richter, and when presented to Lady Leigh, she was able to determine that it was gargoyle blood, seeming to link Sir Horffe to the crime, but after speaking with Lady Jehanne, the Avatar learned that Sir Pendaran, another knight and Fellowship member, was responsible. As the Avatar continued his quest, Lady Leigh remained in Serpent's Hold, caring for the knights.

When the Avatar first arrived in Serpent's Hold, Lady Tory welcomed the Champion of Virtue sadly, and explained that her son Riky, a young child recently born into the Hold, had been kidnapped by a cruel pack of harpies that had taken up residence around the nearby Shrine of Honor, and despite valiant attacks by the knights of the Hold, they were unable to recover her child. After a bloody battle, the Avatar and his party liberated the Shrine from the harpy flock, and returned Riky to his grateful mother.

As they spoke, Lady Tory told the Avatar of the residents of Serpent's Hold: Lord John-Paul, who was an extraordinary leader who all the residents looked up to; Sir Horffe, the gargoyle Captain of the guards who was raised by two human knights as a valiant warrior, and who maintained his Gargish accent to hold on to his background; Sir Richter, the armourer and second-in-command, who had joined the Fellowship, a group founded by Batlin, and had become less compassionate; Sir Pendaran, a knight and Fellowship member, who Lady Tory felt was attractive; Sir Jordan, the blind shopkeeper of Iolo's South, who despite his blindness was a deft fighter and a mechanical wonder, and who Sir Richter and Sir Pendaran were trying to recruit into the Fellowship; Sir Denton, the tavernkeeper of the Hallowed Deck who was most astute, and who Lady Tory could not sense with her ability; Lady Leigh, the Hold healer who very skilled; Lady Jehanne, the provisioner and lady of Sir Pendaran; and Menion, the trainer who enjoyed weaponsmithing, and who Lady Tory knew least about.

When the Avatar first arrived in Serpent's Hold, Menion greeted the Champion of Virtue, and offered to train him for 45 gold pieces per session. When asked about his style of training, Menion explained that the key to effective fighting was to strike hard for a better chance of penetrating an opponent’s armour while accurately striking targets on an individual that would incapacitate them.

As they spoke, Menion mentioned that he enjoyed forging swords for his students, and when asked, offered the Avatar a scroll with the steps necessary to create a fine blade. As the Avatar continued his quest, Menion remained in Serpent's Hold, training those in need.
