Champion of Britannia, living embodiment of the Eight Virtues of Lord British, and a citizen of Earth. He was called to ancient Sosaria by Lord British during the time of the Triad of Evil: Mondain, Minax, and Exodus. By overcoming great challenges; physical, mental, and spiritual alike, he managed to defeat them and save what was to become Britannia. But his challenges were still yet to come as the call went forth for one to master the Virtues. Again the hero prevailed and earned the title of Avatar. Darkness came to the lands during the time the Codex of Infinite Wisdom was raised from its subterranean slumber. The act unearthed three Shards from Mondain's Black Gem of Immortality. A errant sea captain freed the three Shadowlords, twisted reflections of the Principles. They overtook the lands and placed their puppet ruler, Lord Blackthorn upon the throne of Britannia, where he twisted the Virtues into his own tyrannical Laws of Blackthorn. Through the Avatar's courage, truth, and love Britannia was freed from their deadly grasp.
Peace was yet to come as the fierce Gargoyles, keepers of the Codex, attacked the Shrines and the people at large. The culture of the Gargoyles warned them of their impeding doom if the False Prophet was not sacrificed. Traveling to the Underworld, he met with the Gargoyle King, Lord Draxinusom, to help prevent the prophecy of their destruction. After much work, the Avatar realized it was the Codex that needed to be sacrificed and sent it into the Void, thus making it free from human and gargoyle alike. Following his actions in the last Age of Enlightenment, the Avatar left Britannia to return to his home. It was nearly 200 years later when the Avatar emerged from a red moongate within the city of Trinsic. He was greeted by Iolo, one of his Companions during the Quest of the Avatar, who told the Avatar of a brutal and ritualistic murder done within the city stables. The Mayor of Trinsic, Finnigan, told the Avatar of an earlier murder done within Britain, and requested the Avatar's assistance in investigating the new murder. Readily agreeing, the Avatar began his quest. During his travels, he learned of the Fellowship, an organization founded by Batlin, Abraham, and Elizabeth, designed to help the commonwealth of Britannia who had drifted away from the Virtues. As he followed the elusive Abraham and Elizabeth from city to city, the Avatar learned a deeper and darker truth about the Fellowship. Britannia faced its greatest challenge as the Fellowship, working for an inter-dimensional being known as the Guardian, was constructing a Moongate from the mysterious substance known as blackrock. This Black Gate, built within the Isle of the Avatar, would become a doorway between Britannia's dimension and the Guardian's realm, enabling the foul destroyer to enter and conquer the lands. The Fellowship was traveling the length of Britannia savagely murdering those with knowledge that could stop their plans, and those that disagreed to vocally with their beliefs. The Fellowship was also responsible for the interference with the ether in the lands. Using three massive Generators, the Guardian was able to increase his power and control of his followers in Britannia. The Avatar, alerted to the danger, traveled to the Isle, and after a fierce battle with Abraham, Elizabeth, Forskis, and Hook. As the last of his lieutenants fell, Batlin teleported away to safety, but not without a dire warning of things to come. The Guardian then spoke, tempting the Avatar with the Black Gate as a doorway back to Earth. With regret heavy in his heart, the Avatar used Rudyom's Wand to destroy the Black Gate, ending the Guardian's threat to Britannia. |
Friend and Companion to the Avatar, Iolo originally hailed from the city of Britain, known for their Compassion. Also a native of Earth, he traveled to Britannia at the request of Lord British. A famed musician and poet, Iolo was a master bard and authored the song Stones. Often depicted by history as a fool, Iolo was a noble soul, who out of his Compassion, always believed in and traveled with the Avatar. During his time in Britannia, Iolo founded Iolo's Bows in the city of Britain, and took a young boy named Coop as apprentice. When business continued to grow, he expanded his trade by opening Iolo South in Serpent's Hold, run by Sir Jordan. A master bowcrafter, Iolo was also responsible for the invention of the Triple Crossbow, a powerful weapon that loosed 3 bolts at a time, although had an annoying tendency to strike ally as well as foe.
Although he lived in Yew with his wife Gwenno, a scholar who had traveled the lands and recently traveled to the Serpent Isle, Iolo was visiting the city of Trinsic when the Avatar arrived from a moongate. Greeting his friend, Iolo immediately joined the Avatar in his quest and informed him of a savage murder that had been done in the city stables. Referring the Avatar to Petre the stablekeeper, they set forth to learn the truth. After many hardships and adventuring, they stood before the dais of the Black Gate. Even as the Guardian tempted the Avatar with a passageway back to Earth, the party was resolute in their quest. With regret heavy in his heart, the Avatar used Rudyom's Wand to destroy the Black Gate, ending the Guardian's threat to Britannia. |
Son of Christopher, blacksmith of Trinsic, Spark was an orphan when he first met the Avatar during the investigation of his father's murder. The Avatar had found a key at the murder site, and at the recommendation of Finnigan the mayor, he approached young Spark about it. Recalling a locked chest, Spark led the Avatar to his home, and within found a Fellowship medallion, 100 pieces of gold, and a scroll concerning a 'delivery'. When pressed, Spark admitted to seeing a man with a hook fleeing the scene, and begged the Avatar to join him in his quest. When Iolo remarked that his youth would be more of a hindrance than help, Spark let fly with a well-placed slingshot and struck a fly hovering over the startled minstrel's head. Disgruntled but impressed, Iolo agreed the boy had skill.
The Avatar allowed young Spark to join, and during their travels, he proved to become a powerful ally in battle. During the course of their quest, the Avatar and his party located the secret base of the Fellowship within the Isle of the Avatar. As they arrived at the Black Gate, they found the top lieutenants of the Guardian, and among them, Hook, the man responsible for Christopher's death. After a fierce but brief battle, Hook's body cooled on the floor as Spark's revenge ended. Even as the Guardian tempted the Avatar with a passageway back to Earth, the party was resolute in their quest. With regret heavy in his heart, the Avatar used Rudyom's Wand to destroy the Black Gate, ending the Guardian's threat to Britannia. |
A native of the Lands of Danger and Despair, and once a king of Sosaria, Shamino was one of the Avatar's greatest Companions. Hailing from the city of Skare Brae, known for their Spirituality, Shamino followed the life of a ranger, but during the Quest of the Avatar, laid aside his studies to follow the Avatar on his quest. During his time within Britannia, Shamino moved to the city of Britain where he met a young actress named Amber, who captured his heart.
When the Avatar returned to Britannia, Shamino insisted on accompanying him on his quest, and proved invaluable in pointing out landmarks and the various points of interest in the lands. As their quest further uncovered the treachery of the Fellowship, the party traveled to the Isle of the Avatar. After a great deal of dungeon crawling, they arrived within the chamber of the Black Gate, there to face Batlin and his lieutenants in battle. After a short but fierce battle, the Avatar was tempted by the Guardian to use the Black Gate to return to his native Earth, but the Avatar was not swayed. With regret heavy in his heart, the Avatar used Rudyom's Wand to destroy the Black Gate, ending the Guardian's threat to Britannia. |
A great friend and one of the Companions to the Avatar. Also a resident of Earth, he traveled to Britannia along with Lord British. Dupre was once mayor of the city of Trinsic, also known as the city of Honor, but laid his duties aside to travel with the Avatar whenever called. When the Avatar returned to Britannia to fight the evils of the Fellowship, Sir Dupre, recently knighted by Lord British, was conducting a study of all the drinking establishments in Britannia when the Avatar arrived in Jhelom.
Learning of his friend's quest, he immediately joined, but told the Avatar of a strange occurrence within the town. It seemed the owner of the tavern, Sprellic was accused of stealing the Honor Flag from the Library of Scars, a fighting school run by Master DeSnel. After solving Sprellic's problem, the Avatar and party continued their quest to learn of the Guardian's plans for Britannia. Their search finally lead them to the Isle of the Avatar, where they located the completed Black Gate moments before the Guardian began his entrance into Britannia. After a fierce battle with Batlin and his lieutenants, the Avatar was tempted by the Guardian to use the Black Gate to return to his native Earth, but to no avail. With regret heavy in his heart, the Avatar used Rudyom's Wand to destroy the Black Gate, ending the Guardian's threat to Britannia. |
Once a resident of Yew and one of the Companions of the Avatar, Jaana was a druid dedicated to the virtue of Justice, but set aside her studies whenever the Avatar needed her assistance. She later moved to the township of Cove, dedicated to Passion, where she became the town healer aiding those in need. As she lived there, she became enamored with the mayor, Lord Heather, who returned her affections in turn. When the Avatar arrived within the town of Cove seeking the mage Rudyom, he greeted his old friend, and invited Jaana to join their quest.
After promising Lord Heather that she would be careful, Jaana became a useful member of the party. As the party further uncovered the treachery of the Fellowship, they traveled to the Isle of the Avatar. As they arrived within the chamber of the Black Gate, they faced Batlin and his lieutenants in battle. Afterwards, the Avatar was tempted by the Guardian to use the Black Gate to return to his native Earth, but he was not swayed. A native of Earth and one of the Companions of the Avatar, Sentri was once appointed by Lord British as the Lord of Serpent's Hold, but later abandoned his duties to aid the Avatar with his quests. When the Avatar returned to Britannia, Sentri had set up shop as a trainer of Dexterity within the city of Britain, but upon seeing his friend, immediately offered his services to further the Avatar's quest. Grateful, the party welcomed Sentri into their ranks, and was grateful for his help in boosting their skill.

A native of Earth and one of the Companions of the Avatar, Julia originally hailed from the city of Minoc, dedicated to Sacrifice, and was a valuable ally to the Avatar in his earlier quests. Returning to her native city, Julia became tinker for the city, fixing and building items for the citizens. When the Avatar arrived within Minoc, she greeted him with terrible news. Another gruesome murder had been committed within the sawmill, where Frederico and Tania, the leader of the Gypsies and his wife, had been ritualistically killed in a manner matching the murders in Trinsic and Britain.
As the Avatar continued his search for the killers, Julia told him of the Fellowship's plan to erect a statue in honor of their shipwright, Owen. The Avatar had obtained a set of plans designed by Owen from Karl, a local citizen whose brother had died aboard one of Owen's ships. Inspecting the plans, Julia pointed out several key flaws within the design, and assured the Avatar a ship built by the plans would capsize easily. When Owen was confronted by the Avatar, he was so overcome with shame that he killed himself rather than face his peers. Saddened, the Avatar thanked Julia for her assistance in his quest. Julia offered to join the Avatar on his quest, but became rather testy if asked to leave the party. A native of Earth and the only survivor of the destruction of Old Magincia, city of Pride, and one of the Companions of the Avatar, Katrina was a shepherdess dedicated to the pursuit of Humility when the Avatar first found her among the ruins of her destroyed city. After New Magincia was refounded, Katrina returned to continue her simple life, watching over her flock and the citizens of the city. When the Avatar arrived upon the isle of New Magincia, Katrina greeted her old friend warmly, and told him of the people she knew. Alagner was a wise sage who knew many things and told wonderful stories, but had come to the island to retreat from the outside world, although she did not know why. Russell was the shipwright of the city, who possessed a sailor's heart, an artist's soul and a craftsman's hands. Although Russell never lived his dream of sailing the world, his ships were able to do that for him.
Henry was an old friend she had known for years. A simple peddler but a good man, Henry never possessed much money, but was deeply in love with Constance, who carried water from the Well of Humility. Katrina gifted Henry with a gold locket, but worried that it had been stolen by three travelers that had recently arrived on the isle. The Avatar investigated, and after a bit of debate, returned the locket to Henry. Grateful to the Avatar, Katrina offered to join the party in their quest. With regret heavy in his heart, the Avatar used Rudyom's Wand to destroy the Black Gate, ending the Guardian's threat to Britannia. |
A woodsman of the Deep Forest of Yew, Tseramed garnered his living from the forest. His knowledge of the region was immense, encompassing the entire forest and the caves in the nearby mountains. When the Avatar traveled to Yew, he met Tseramed nearby his hut practicing archery. Tseramed greeted the Avatar and his party, making a special note of Iolo and his bowcraft. Tseramed talked about his love for the forest and the seas, and shared with the Avatar his knowledge of the lands. Of particular interest was the Bee Cave, a nearby bore-hole within the mountains, home to a breed of giant bees and to two humans, known as Mama and Papa. Tseramed was unable to explain how they lived in such peace with the bees, but he suspected they were residents of Yew that had fled into the caves. He then offered to accompany the Avatar to the cave to help kill the bees and harvest their honey. To help in this task, he offered the Avatar a bundle of his Sleep Arrows, crafted from the stingers of the giant bees, from which the merest scratch would place the victim into a deep sleep. The Avatar thanked Tseramed for his gift and for his offer to join them.
When asked about the Fellowship, Tseramed became cold and standoffish. When pressed, he related the story of his love, the Lady M. She had joined the Fellowship during their early beginnings, and had risen quickly through the ranks until she reported directly to Elizabeth. When the Lady M fell gravely ill, Elizabeth refused to let her see the healers, and by the time Tseramed arrived, she had passed away. Furious, Tseramed swore vengeance against Elizabeth and her brother Abraham, but despite years of search, he was unable to corner his quarry. The Avatar, grateful for a staunch ally, accepted Tseramed's offer to join their quest. During the course of their quest, the Avatar and his party located the secret base of the Fellowship within the Isle of the Avatar. As they arrived within the chamber of the Black Gate, they found Batlin and his lieutenants, and among them, Elizabeth and Abraham. After a fierce but brief battle, their bodies lay cooling on the floor as Tseramed's vendetta ended. Even as the Guardian tempted the Avatar with a passageway back to Earth, the party was resolute in their quest. With regret heavy in his heart, the Avatar used Rudyom's Wand to destroy the Black Gate, ending the Guardian's threat to Britannia. |
