Husband of Brita and father of Garritt, Feridwyn ran the Fellowship shelter in Paws, providing aid and care for the poor of Britannia by following the teachings of Batlin, the founder of the Fellowship. When the Avatar first arrived in Paws, Feridwyn welcomed the Champion of Virtue, and informed the Avatar that a quantity of silver serpent venom had been stolen from Morfin the slaughterhouse owner. When the Avatar asked about Elizabeth and Abraham, Feridwyn mentioned that they had traveled to Jhelom to see about establishing a Fellowship branch there.
As they spoke, Feridwyn told the Avatar about the residents of Paws: Morfin, the local slaughterhouse owner who was a clever and industrious Fellowship member; Andrew, the dairy owner who such a happy man that he didn't notice his own personal problems; Thurston, the miller who Feridwyn felt would be more successful if he ran the mill more towards profit; Beverlea, the nearly blind woman who ran the antique shop near the river; Alina a young woman staying in the shelter, mother of Cassie, whose husband Weston was away in Britain; Merrick, a local beggar who had turned his back on his former life by joining the Fellowship; Fenn, a pathetic beggar who refused all aid from the Fellowship; Komor, a hateful and bitter beggar who had never spoken a word to Feridwyn that wasn't a veiled insult; Camille, a sad widow whose husband had died and left her a profitless farm; and Tobias, Camille's son who Feridwyn felt was a troublemaker, but often allowed Tobias to play with his son Garritt in the hopes it might do the lad some good. During his investigation in Paws, the Avatar was told by Feridwyn that Garritt had caught Tobias with the silver serpent venom, but after speaking with Morfin about the findings, the Avatar uncovered the truth about the theft. Garritt had stolen and used the venom, and had framed Tobias in the hopes that it would force Camille to join the Fellowship. When the Avatar confronted him with the truth about his son, Feridwyn exclaimed that while he would discipline Garritt, he still blamed Tobias for his corrupting influence. As the Avatar continued his quest, Feridwyn remained in Paws, caring for those in need. |
Wife of Feridwyn and mother of Garritt, Brita helped her husband run the Fellowship shelter in Paws, working to ease the suffering of those less fortunate by following the teachings of Batlin, the founder of the Fellowship. When the Avatar first arrived in Paws, Brita welcomed the Champion of Virtue, and informed the Avatar that a quantity of silver serpent venom had been stolen from Morfin the slaughterhouse owner. As they spoke, Brita told the Avatar what she knew about the residents of Paws: Morfin, the slaughterhouse owner and a member of the Fellowship; Alina a young woman staying in the shelter, mother of Cassie, whose husband Weston was in prison for thievery; Camille, a farm widow who followed the Eight Virtues of Lord British and often questioned the values of the Fellowship; Tobias, Camille's son who Brita felt was a wretched urchin, sulking about without a father to discipline him properly; and Polly, who ran the local tavern, and who Brita wished would join the Fellowship to ease her loneliness.
During his investigation in Paws, the Avatar uncovered the truth about the theft. Garritt had stolen and used the venom, and had framed Tobias in the hopes that it would force Camille to join the Fellowship. When the Avatar confronted her with the truth about her son, Brita exclaimed she did not believe Garritt was a liar and a thief, and turned away from the Avatar. As the Avatar continued his quest, Brita remained in Paws, assisting those in need. |
Son of Feridwyn and Brita, Garritt often assisted his parents with running the Fellowship shelter in Paws, helping the poor people by following the teachings of Batlin, the founder of the Fellowship. When the Avatar first arrived in Paws, Garritt greeted the Champion of Virtue, and informed the Avatar that a quantity of silver serpent venom had been stolen from Morfin the slaughterhouse owner. When the Avatar asked about his work in the shelter, Garritt exclaimed that he often helped his father Feridwyn, who was once the head recruiter for the Fellowship before being moved to Paws, to recruit the poor people at the shelter into the Fellowship, and remarked that those that did not join lacked strength of character, according to his father. When asked about his mother, Garritt mentioned that Brita did whatever she was told by Feridwyn, and that he hoped one day to be either a counselor for the Fellowship or else a professional whistle panpipe player.
As they spoke, Garritt told the Avatar about Camille and her son Tobias, who had rejected the Fellowship, and who Garritt felt was witless and stupid. During his investigation in Paws, the Avatar was told by Garritt that he had caught Tobias with the silver serpent venom, but after speaking with Morfin about the findings, the Avatar uncovered the truth about the theft. Garritt had stolen and used the venom, and had framed Tobias in the hopes that it would force Camille to join the Fellowship. When the Avatar confronted him, Garritt begged the Avatar not to tell his parents, and when the Avatar refused, Garritt accused him of being weak of character. Garritt also stated that although Tobias had not stolen the venom, Garritt was sure he would come to a bad end one day. As the Avatar continued his quest, Garritt remained in Paws, helping his parents. |
A man with a crooked smile, Morfin ran the slaughterhouse in Paws, and was a Fellowship member. When the Avatar first arrived in Paws, Morfin greeted the Champion of Virtue, and warned the Avatar that a quantity of silver serpent venom had been stolen from him. Morfin sold the silver serpent venom, which he acquired from his old friends on Buccaneer's Den, to Kessler the apothecary in Britain, as well as had a notarized contract with the Britannian Mining Company, who used the venom to keep their gargoyle employees working longer hours, as they had a greater resistance to its effects. When the Avatar asked about the effects involved, Morfin explained that when silver serpent venom was ingested in small doses, it would temporarily enhance physical strength, stamina and quickness along with bringing a feeling of euphoria, but after the effects faded, the user would feel drained, forcing them to take it again. After prolonged use, the user's skin would start to deteriorate, rotting it away, and finally the user would die, as the venom was a deadly poison.
Apologizing for the smell in the slaughterhouse, Morfin offered to sell the Avatar a variety of meats: ham hocks, for 4 gold pieces each; mutton slabs, for 3 gold pieces each, and beef steaks, for 2 gold pieces each. When asked about Paws, Morfin admitted that while he had enough to move to Britain, he enjoyed the small town, and recommended the Avatar speak to Feridwyn and his wife Brita, who ran the Fellowship shelter in Paws, along with their son Garritt. Morfin asked the Avatar if he would investigate, and if possible, return the stolen venom to him. Agreeing, the Avatar conducted an investigation, but before he could uncover the thief, the Avatar was told by Feridwyn that Garritt had caught Tobias, a local boy, with the silver serpent venom, but after speaking with Morfin about the findings, the slaughterhouse owner confessed that he did not believe Tobias guilty of the theft, but had seen symptoms of venom use in Garritt, and asked the Avatar to search Garritt's belongings. When the Avatar checked, he discovered the missing venom in Garritt's chest at the Fellowship shelter. When confronted, Garritt told the Avatar that he had stolen and used the venom, and had framed Tobias in the hopes that it would force his mother Camille to join the Fellowship. With the case solved, the Avatar returned the stolen venom to Morfin, who rewarded the Avatar for his help. As the Avatar continued his quest, Morfin remained in Paws, conducting his business. |
A hard-working man, Thurston ran the flour mill in Paws, helping to maintain the local economy. When the Avatar first arrived in Paws, Thurston greeted the Champion of Virtue, and informed the Avatar that a quantity of silver serpent venom had been stolen from Morfin the slaughterhouse owner. When asked about the theft, Thurston remarked that he knew gargoyles had used habitually in ancient times, but was unaware of the modern effects, recommending Morfin as a better source of information. As they spoke, Thurston confessed that he often felt he no reason to live, citing the fact that he had no wife or family, and although he had thought about joining the Fellowship, he refused to do so as something about them made him uncomfortable.
Thurston remarked that the only things he had were his work at the flour mill, and the occasional drink at the Salty Dog, which he confessed was more to see Polly, the bartender, than for the wine, but felt that Polly would never have time for him. During his travels in Paws, the Avatar spoke with Polly, who expressed her shock at Thurston's feelings, remarking that she had never approached him for fear of not being good enough, and when the Avatar told Thurston, he thanked the Avatar and promised to start courting Polly immediately. Thurston also offered to sell the Avatar flour at 12 gold pieces per sack, and promised to pay him 10 gold pieces per sack of wheat delivered from Camille, a local farmer. As the Avatar continued his quest, Thurston remained in Paws, running the flour mill. |
A busy woman, Polly was the owner and proprietor of the Salty Dog in Paws, serving the townspeople fine food, drinks, and rooms at affordable costs. When the Avatar first arrived in Paws, Polly welcomed the Champion of Virtue, and informed the Avatar that a quantity of silver serpent venom had been stolen from Morfin the slaughterhouse owner. When asked about the theft, Polly told the Avatar she was not surprised at the thief's choice, as Morfin was a shrewd and successful merchant, as well as a Fellowship member. As they spoke, Polly offered to sell the Avatar a meal, some drinks, and a room for 5 gold pieces per person a night, and admitted that since Paws was such a small place, there were no other inns or pubs.
Polly also mentioned Merrick, who was a beggar often near the Salty Dog, but had since given up his ways when he became a devout Fellowship member. During his travels in Paws, the Avatar spoke with Thurston, the miller, who expressed his feelings for Polly, but had remarked she never seemed to have time for him, and when the Avatar told Polly, she expressed her shock, saying that she had not approached Thurston for fear of not being good enough, but promised to remedy the problem. As the Avatar continued his quest, Polly remained in Paws, serving her customers. |
A cheerful, handsome young man, Andrew was the owner and proprietor of the dairy in Paws. When the Avatar first arrived in Paws, Andrew greeted the Champion of Virtue, and informed the Avatar that a quantity of silver serpent venom had been stolen from Morfin the slaughterhouse owner. When asked about the theft, Andrew admitted that with all the trade that occurred in Paws, he felt it would be easy to hide, and recommended the Avatar speak with Morfin, who had purchased the slaughterhouse a few years before, after he joined the Fellowship, from an old man who had owned it before, and had shown Andrew the storeroom when he was a young lad. As they spoke, Andrew offered to sell the Avatar some fine dairy products: a gallon of milk for 3 gold pieces a jug; and cheese wedges for 2 gold pieces each. Andrew also mentioned Camille, a local farmer who followed the Eight Virtues of Lord British, and her son Tobias, a rather defensive young lad. As the Avatar continued his quest, Andrew remained in Paws, running the dairy. |
Mother of Tobias, Camille was a widow in Paws, running the small farm her husband left behind. When the Avatar first arrived in Paws, Camille welcomed the Champion of Virtue warmly, recognizing him immediately, and informed the Avatar that a quantity of silver serpent venom had been stolen from Morfin the slaughterhouse owner. As they spoke, Camille offered to sell the Avatar some fine carrots for 1 gold piece each, and asked if he would deliver some packages of wheat to Thurston, the miller, who Camille promised would pay for them. When asked about the theft, Camille exclaimed that Feridwyn, the head of the Fellowship shelter, was blaming her son Tobias because she did not trust the Fellowship, an organization founded by Batlin, and for that Feridwyn considered Camille his personal enemy, and begged the Avatar to clear her son's name.
Agreeing, the Avatar conducted an investigation, but before he could uncover the thief, the Avatar was told by Feridwyn that his son Garritt had caught Tobias with the silver serpent venom, but after speaking with Morfin about the findings, the slaughterhouse owner confessed that he did not believe Tobias guilty of the theft, but had seen symptoms of venom use in Garritt, and asked the Avatar to search Garritt's belongings. When the Avatar checked, he discovered the missing venom in Garritt's chest at the Fellowship shelter. When confronted, Garritt told the Avatar that he had stolen and used the venom, and had framed Tobias in the hopes that it would force Camille to join the Fellowship. With the case solved, Camille thanked the Avatar for clearing Tobias' name, remarking that did her heart good to see that the Avatar had returned again, and that he cared enough about the people of Britannia to help them solve their troubles. As the Avatar continued his quest, Camille remained in Paws, working at her farm. |
Son of Camille, Tobias helped his mother at their farm in Paws. When the Avatar first arrived in Paws, Tobias greeted the Champion of Virtue sourly, remarking that he needed another Avatar. When asked about that, Tobias told the Avatar that his mother Camille still followed the Eight Virtues of Lord British, and was thought of as slightly mad by some. Tobias remarked that he remembered his mother taking him to the Shrine of Sacrifice when he was very young, right after his father had died, but had never been back. As they spoke, Tobias mentioned that he and Camille often dealt with Andrew, the dairy owner whose father had been friends with Tobias' father, and Thurston, the local miller who was kind to Camille and Tobias. Tobias also told the Avatar about a quantity of silver serpent venom that had been stolen from Morfin the slaughterhouse owner, and when asked about the theft, Tobias exclaimed that Garritt, a local boy Tobias' age, and his father Feridwyn, the head of the Fellowship shelter, were constantly trying to convince his mother Camille to join the Fellowship, an organization founded by Batlin, and that Garritt was trying to falsely accuse him of the crime.
During his investigation, but before he could uncover the thief, the Avatar was told by Feridwyn that his son Garritt had caught Tobias with the silver serpent venom, but after speaking with Morfin about the findings, the slaughterhouse owner confessed that he did not believe Tobias guilty of the theft, but had seen symptoms of venom use in Garritt, and asked the Avatar to search Garritt's belongings. When the Avatar checked, he discovered the missing venom in Garritt's chest at the Fellowship shelter. When confronted, Garritt told the Avatar that he had stolen and used the venom, and had framed Tobias in the hopes that it would force Camille to join the Fellowship. With his name cleared, Tobias thanked the Avatar for not believing he was guilty, and stated that he believed he was the true Avatar after all. As the Avatar continued his quest, Tobias remained in Paws, helping his mother. |
A grandmotherly old woman with very poor vision, Beverlea ran the House of Items in Paws, selling antiques and previously used items to all. When the Avatar arrived in Paws, Beverlea welcomed the Champion of Virtue warmly, and told the Avatar to look around her shop. When asked about the items, Beverlea told the Avatar the history of the antiques: an old cradle that was used by Gorn the Barbarian as a child, which had a small crack in the side that Beverlea said proved Gorn's strength as a babe, that she offered to sell for 10 gold pieces; an unusual rocking horse that was once owned by Diane of Britain, who later grew up to be one of the finest equestriennes ever to sit upon a horse, that she offered to sell for 12 gold pieces; a bell that was once used in the High Court of Yew to announce whenever the court was in session, that she offered to sell for 6 gold coins; an antique hourglass that was sold to Beverlea by an old man so daft he had forgotten how to use it, that she offered to sell for 5 gold pieces; an old spittoon that was used by a great many people, that Beverlea begged the Avatar to take for a gold piece; a beautiful lute that was lost in a game of dice by a traveling bard, that she offered to sell for 20 gold pieces; and a sextant that was sold by the famous shipwright Owen of Minoc to a sailor who later sold it to Beverlea after a harrowing experience on the waters, telling her he was going to retire, that she offered to sell the Avatar for 20 gold pieces.
During his quest to save Britannia, the Avatar found himself unable to enter the Guardian's Sphere Generator in Dungeon Despise. When the Avatar sought the advice of the Time Lord, the mysterious Master of Time told the Avatar to seek out Nicodemus of Yew for his magical Hourglass, which would allow the Avatar to get past the moongate maze surrounding the Generator. When asked about the Hourglass, Nicodemus vaguely remembered selling it to Beverlea in Paws. Racing back, the Avatar gladly paid the 5 gold piece price for the ancient artifact. As the Avatar continued his quest to save Britannia, Beverlea remained in Paws, selling her items. |
Wife of Weston and mother of Cassie, Alina was a young woman staying at the Fellowship shelter in Paws, a facility for the poor run by Feridwyn and his wife Brita, providing aid and care for those in need by following the teachings of Batlin, the founder of the Fellowship. When the Avatar arrived in Paws, Alina greeted the Champion of Virtue sadly, remarking that her husband Weston was imprisoned in Britain for the crime of stealing apples from the Royal Orchard. As they spoke, Alina confessed that while the Fellowship had provided her and her daughter a place to stay, she found herself unable to join the Fellowship without betraying Weston, as it was Figg, a Fellowship member, that had accused Weston of his crime, but confessed that unless she joined the Fellowship, Feridwyn would ask her to leave the shelter, which was only for Fellowship members.
During the course of his travels, the Avatar met Weston in Britain, and after listening to his side of the story, approached Lord British about Weston's case. Shocked at the misuse of his power, Lord British ordered Weston's immediate release, and told the Avatar that he would speak to Figg about his abuse of power. Grateful for his assistance, Alina thanked the Avatar, and mentioned that Lord British had provided Weston with short-term employment. As the Avatar continued his quest, Alina remained in Paws, caring for her daughter. |
A nervous man, Merrick was a Fellowship member staying at the Fellowship shelter in Paws, a facility for the poor run by Feridwyn and his wife Brita, providing aid and care for those in need by following the teachings of Batlin, the founder of the Fellowship. When the Avatar first arrived in Paws, Merrick greeted the Champion of Virtue, and informed the Avatar that a quantity of silver serpent venom had been stolen from Morfin the slaughterhouse owner, and remarked that he suspected Tobias, a local boy who worked with his mother Camille at their farm.
As they spoke, Merrick told the Avatar that he was once a farmer in Paws, but after the seven year drought, he was reduced to a pauper, living off the rubbish of others along with: Komor, a bitter man who was born to wealthy parents, and had once owned one of the largest farms in Britannia, but when he lost his farm had begun sleeping along the road until a gang of bullies tried to steal his gold, and when they found he had none, beat Komor until he was lame; and Fenn, a farm laborer who was one of Komor's most trusted friends, and who had no other place to go once the farm closed down. When Merrick joined the Fellowship, he tried to share his learning with Komor and Fenn, he found that they hated him for his resourcefulness. As the Avatar continued his quest, Merrick remained in Paws, living at the shelter. |
A man leaning on a crutch, Komor was a beggar in Paws, working alongside Fenn, his friend since childhood, in trying to survive. When the Avatar arrived in Paws, Komor greeted the Champion of Virtue, and when asked about his job, remarked that he was a dancer, failing to keep a straight face. As they spoke, Komor told the Avatar about when he was a farmer in Paws, but as times had gotten worse, Komor, Fenn, and Merrick had become beggars.
Komor remarked that Merrick had become a rotten egg when he joined the Fellowship, constantly trying to recruit him to join in order to stay at the Fellowship shelter, a facility for the poor run by Feridwyn and his wife Brita, providing aid and care for those in need by following the teachings of Batlin, the founder of the Fellowship, but Komor confessed that he felt anyone acting as nice as they did were up to no good, and before the Avatar left, Komor asked him for a donation of gold. As the Avatar continued his quest, Komor remained in Paws, begging for his survival. |
A man who looked as if he were about to laugh or cry, Fenn was a beggar in Paws, working alongside Komor, his best friend and the bravest man he knew, in trying to survive. When the Avatar arrived in Paws, Fenn greeted the Champion of Virtue, and informed the Avatar that a quantity of silver serpent venom had been stolen from Morfin the slaughterhouse owner. When asked about the theft, Fenn recommended the Avatar speak with Avatar, the dairy owner, who might have seen something. As they spoke, Fenn told the Avatar that he was once a farmer in Paws during more prosperous times, working with Komor and Merrick.
When they had become beggars, Fenn explained that Merrick had joined the Fellowship, recruiting for them, in order to stay at the Fellowship shelter, a facility for the poor run by Feridwyn and his wife Brita, providing aid and care for those in need by following the teachings of Batlin, the founder of the Fellowship, but Fenn remarked that if the Fellowship truly wanted to help people, they would not allow people to starve just because they didn't want to join. Fenn reassured the Avatar that he and Komor would not starve thanks to the charity of Camille, a local farmer, who would often send her son Tobias with food and clothing for the men. Fenn remarked that Tobias was a fine lad that was always willing to lend a hand, unlike Feridwyn's son Avatar who would cross the street to avoid Fenn and Komor, and before the Avatar left, Fenn asked him for a donation of gold. As the Avatar continued his quest, Fenn remained in Paws, begging for his survival. |
